At a meeting held on the occasion of our first reunion in The Cairn Hotel in Harrogate on 8th. October 2011, it was decided to hold our second reunion in 2012. All details are yet to be decided. The date of 06/10/12 shown above is for access to the reunion announcements section of Forces Reunited only and this date may alter in the near future when the committee decides on the actual date and venue for the reunion.

The Reunion will take place over a 3 day period, Friday/Saturday/Sunday, 12/13/14 October 2012. The committee will also be in attendance on Thursday 11th October and anybody that wants to can also attend on Thursday but the committee have some meetings to attend that day so they may not be too available for socialising. George Smith, our Social Secretary, has already got the arrangements well in hand and to join in, please log onto http://www.omanrafveterans.org and submit a membership form and the membership sub-committee will get in touch with you directly. If intending to travel to Harrogate on Saturday for the Reunion Dinner only, we would ask that you try to be at the hotel before 2.30pm if at all possible as that is the proposed timing for the AGM which will, hopefully, vote The RAF Masirah & RAF Salalah Veteran’s Association officially into existence. Attendance at the AGM is not essential but it is desirable. Further updates as the year progresses. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year to all our members, existing and potential. Vic Nugent, Secretary, Steering Committee for setting up The RAF Masirah & RAF Salalah Veteran’s Association

Why no Riyan either? We were the first stop for the RSM!I was at Riyan from 1961-62 in MTSS
Vic Nugent

Hi, Ian. Can I explain that we first started this project to find about 5 or 8 lads who worked in Ops and Tower in RAF Masirah in 1972 and who were all very good mates at the time. Then we began to get requests from people who served on the island at other times to be included and we went down the road and extended the timeline to accommodate them. We then started to get requests from guys who served on our sister-station, RAF Salalah to be included and so we have now included them. To be honest, we are trying as best we can to keep the organisation we have founded as tightly-knit as possible and we really dont have a problem in doing that with members from the 2 stations participating since our work and operations were intimately interlinked. Without wishing to seem or sound as if we are being exclusive, the station that I served on, RAF Masirah, shared very little with Riyan or with Sharjah (although I don’t know if the same is true for members who served in Salalah) and we do not feel that the tightness and cohesiveness that we now have with the organisation being confined to RAF Masirah & RAF Salalah could be maintained if we extend participation to members who served on stations in the region with which our 2 stations shared little in common. If you and other friends from your stations ever coalesce and wish to form an Association or organise a reunion, we would be delighted to offer you any help we can to get such a project off the ground. However, for now anyway, we do not see the possibility of opening up the reunion or the Association to anyone who did not actually serve, on tour or on detachment, on RAF Masirah and/or RAF Salalah.
Philip Gribble

Just a quick post for this re-union. It is a bit far for me I currently live in Reading, Berkshire. But I served in RAF Masirah during 1967-68. Under the tower in Communications. Hope the reunion goes well for you. Phil Gribble.
George Mower

Looking forward very much to the re-union in October! I may not recognise the names I have seen represented, and I was at Salalah later than some, 1975-6, but it will be good to see and talk to like minded ex services blokes again! The journey from here in Hove Sussex will be a long-un, but so what? George Mower
William Powis

Bill Powis I was in sharjah ,Masirah and Salalah in 1968- 69 In the Royal Signals Hope the re-union goes well and I may make one in the future
Michael Richards

Delighted to find like minded folk who support the old RSM scenario! I served at Salalah from July 1961 until July 1962, during the first Kuwait alert. All three units were closely related at that time through the RSM supply run operated from Khormaksar via Aden Air Dacs. A lot of sand will have been swept away over the decades and with it many, many tales told at the respective unit bars. Any gathering that brings old comrades together is most welcome in my book. Mike Richards RAF Vet 1951 to 1985.
John Hulford-funnell

Didn’t know this existed, yje stories we can tell. The football matches and radio station
Richard Cook

I was at Salalah 1974/1975 in the fire section and still have a lot of memories of my time out there and if i,m free i hope to attend
