Went to Kinmel Camp for the first time since I joined in 1962. I was passing the camp and decided to have a look around. I was helped by someone who I met there who said that there is a renunion every year. I was interested straight away. I did not know anything about it till my daughter went on-line and found out for me. |

I attended the first ReU but was only able to stay one night; this time I’m going for the 3 nights. Although there are not that many on the JTR Forum with whom I trained at Rhyl, over the course of my subsequent career I met up with many ex-Rhyl lads - both from my own tribe (RAMC) and from other arms and services. Just about all agreed that the ethos and spirit of Kinmel Park Camp - and the high quality of the Permanent Staff who guided and mentored us there - gave us a remarkable start in our military lives and all that we’ve done since. Those of you who are wondering whether or not you’ll know anybody at the ReU - fret not. You’ll soon find yourselves reminiscing with folk as if you’ve been mates the past 50 years. And it’s wonderful to be able to explore what’s left of KPC - it’s a haunting experience - look out, here come RSMs Morgan and Hedges; there’s Sgt Bert O’Bee; Mr White’s still doing one-arm handstands; Fanto’s looking for cross-country runners; WOI Jones is telling Medics that he knew their fathers and uncles; there’s Tanky Bray - scarred and battered by battle but with a heart of gold; and waiting for us at the Main Gate - Paddy - the Sherriff. Come on, one and all, lets resurrect the ghosts and fill the Square. Chris Best |
