signalman Frank William Carter of the Royal Corps of Signals lived through the invasion of France and went on into Germany in the second World War only to be killed at the age of 26, whilst still in Germany just after the end of the war, when everyone was looking forward to his safe return. He is buried in a war cemetary in Hamburg. What is particularly upsetting is that out of a large family the only other male descendants did not have issue so in effect the family line died out with him.
