In memory of my father who as a young man joined the Army in the Wiltshire Regiment and served in Ireland and India-boxed and played hockey for the battalion. Served for 7 years and then left . At the outbreak of the 2nd World War he was called up- he again joined the Wiltshire Regiment- was sent to Normandy after D-Day,fought on Hill 112,Falaise Gap and crossed the Seine.Moved into Holladn up to the Rhine ,at 43 he was moved back to Royal Artillery unit and finished the War in Belgium. He was a good Father to my older brother and myself and always a cheery fellow who made many friends.Unfortunately he had an accident at work in 1951 and was disabled .He passed away having had mini-strokes and died without being able to speak. God bless you. |
