Walter Hodkin

I wish to pay tribute to my darling father Walter, Ex.Corporal 5618579 Walter Hodkin joined 2nd battalion of the Devonshire Regiment on the 7.6.1935 and due to having a leg amputated, left the regiment on the 8.4.1945. He served bravely in Malta, North Africa,Middle East, NW Europe where he survived the D Day landings and helped as a stretcher bearer then was wounded in action on 11th july 1944 at Caen, France. He was a proud member of the regimental band, and boxing team, died 25th August.1968 A soldier to the end. May I thank medical staff at Radcliffe Hospital Oxford for saving his life, especially a Sister Browning. Missed every day, your loving daughter Patricia x |

I never got to meet my grandad as he died five years before my birth. I have looked at his photos and medals and feel very proud of him. |
