to my father Tommy (Taff) Chapman PO Stoker RN. Joined April 1939 and left in October 1952. Served on the cruiser Norfolk at outbreak of war, then destroyer Vicount. Entered submarine service in 1943 and served in the 'Fighting 10th Flotilla' based on Malta for the rest of the war. Finished as an Instructor on the submarine escape apparatus at Gosport. Dad was a great supporter of the Submarines Old Comrades Association and I had the privilege of driving him to many meeting and meeting his friends.
He loved the Royal Navy but would never speak much about it until I joined myself, then I couldn't stop him! He suffered greatly through severe breathing problems from the age of 48 until he died aged 60. I miss him so much. I hope some of his old friends will read this and think of him. |
