William J. Bent, joined the Lancashire Fusiliers - Territorials 1913, fought in Gallipoli 1915. Western Front 1916 where he transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment "The Loyals". Wounded Cambrai 1918 where he suffered the loss of a leg and shrapnel wounds to one arm and shoulder. After time in the military hospital, St. Quentin, France, he returned to England where despite his wounds and disabilities went on to live a full and productive life. Married Bertha 1920, they had two sons. William John passed away January 1954. Greatly missed by sons, Ken and Arnold. |
