I pay tribute to my Dad who enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1912 he gave the wrong age when he joined up, he was 14 years of age but said he was 16, when War broke out 1n 1914 he was sent to france and was wounded in the battle of Mons, after recovering from his wounds he was posted to the middle east where he took part in the Lancashire landings at Gallipoli. he was the youngest in his battalion as he was only 17, after that he took part in every main battle of the war. In 1939 he was called up again with the Territorials, still with the Lancashire Fusiliers, he served with them until he was invalided out no longer fit for active service, when he died he in 1960 he was given a military funeral, and a detachment of Fusiliers came from Bury barracks, Iloved my Dad, and Iam very proud him, and always will be. |
