In memory of my Grandfather, 26179 Private Ernest Ratcliffe, 9th Bn Kings Own (Royal Lancaster Regt) who was killed in action in the 2nd Battle of Doiran at Salonika on 19th September 1918. His wife, Alice, died within days of him in the great Influenza epidemic in the United Kingdom of 1918, leaving three orphaned children, one being my Mother. Ernest has no known grave but is named on the Doiran Memorial. May he rest in peace. |
