Duncan Gillespie
|
11 February 1928 To 4 June 2011 |
| Tullibody, Alloa Clackmananshire Scotland |
Duncan joined 862 Tank Transporter Coy. R.A.S.C. when we were stationed in Italy in 1946. We became good ’mates’, having similar interests. Duncan never considered himself to be a particularly good driver and would openly say so.
However, he transported a Churchill Bridger Tank on one occasion, and with substantial concrete ballast also on the tractor unit he would have been handling a gross weight of over 100 tons. That he arrived safely at his destination says he couldn’t have been too bad a driver ! We remained friends up to his death at the age of 83 in June 2011. R.I.P Duncan.
