Memorial to WOII Douglas Tether RAOC (1930-2002)
Born in Halesowen near Birmingham, he died far from home, but in full military dress (see photo) as a hobby-drum-major for the "Onion-Pipers", in Griesheim which is near Frankfurt, Germany.
Douglas Tether (my Stepfather) served in the RAOC from 1949 until 1969 (approx.)
He was known an "Dougi" or "Ted" and loved his life in the Army. Especially the years as CSM at COD Bicester, where he also ran the football team.
He died during a town festival, very proud at being British and a soldier to his last breath.
