| Malvern Worcs/Kirkaldy Scotland Worcs and Fife United Kingdom |
My brother in law Mike was flying a Meteor Mkv11 to Turnhouse Scotland and was diverted to Leuchars. The a/c developed engine trouble. Mike selected the playing fields Templehall School to land but realised that a group of students were playing rugby and so applied such power as was available to bank away from the school but all he had was a forest and so sacrificed his life and that of his passenger SAC McLaughlin. A memorial constructed of granite marks the site of the accident.
The Kircaldy Civic Society played a remarkable role in having this memorial put in place. The RAF were present at the memorial ceremony. The Kirkcaldy Civic Society website has full details. God Bless you Mike. |
