Patrick Riley
|
15 August 1924 To 31 October 2010 |
| Twickenham Middlesex United Kingdom |
Pat had served as a sapper in the second world war, suffered severe body trauma due to being hit by a vehicle, and recuperated in Richmond Park at a field hospital.
Trained in crane operation he travelled around the country handling munitions from ship to shore. He was a young man when he had to unload the bodies of those who fell at Dunkirk, and pile them on the dockside at Southampton. The sight and smell never left him, and he was haunted by this for the most of his life.
He has left behind 8 brothers and two sisters, as well as his immediate family 3 daughters and two sons.
His funeral service took place on Rememberance Day 11th November 2010. A poignant date for him and the nation. May all the fallen soldiers never be forgotten. |
