March 1900 To August 1917 |
| Downham Market Norfolk England |
In memory of my uncle Ernest Hewing Rifleman 608006 of the
London Regiment London Irish Rifles, intered at Grave Ref VD9 at Brandhoek Military Cemetary Belgium He was wounded in the thigh by a sniper while returning to the line, and later died of his wound due to gas gangrine in hospital. He gave his age wrong to join and was only 17 years old. I never knew him of course, but would have liked to have done so My mother said he was rather like my brother Ernest who was named after him and who was also a professional soldier and fought in WW2
At the going down of the Sun and in the Morning We will remember him |
