Major-General Sir Archibald Galloway, KCB
|
To |
| London England |
In remembrance of my great ancestor Major-General Sir Archibald Galloway KCB. Born 12th February, 1779 in Pertshire Scotland, and died at his home in London, England on 6th April, 1850.
Having chosen arms for his profession and India for his destination in 1814, his illustrious service with the East India Company spanned over 35 years. He was employed on important commissions on the staff and for several years held high charges in India and received a multitude of honors, commendations, and public acknowledgements from the highest annals of the government, and commanders-in-chief in India, as well as the Court of Directors and superior authorities in England. In addition General Galloway was an author of seveal military treatises and Indian Sieges. Most notable perhaps was his writing on the "Mohometan Law", and the "Law, Constitution, and Government of India".
He was nominated a Companion of the Bath in 1838, and made a Knight Commander of the Bath in 1848 at Buckingham Palace by Her Majesty Queen Victoria.
He was elected a Director of the East India Company in 1840 and officiated as its Chairman in 1849.
My great, great, great grandfather was a brave and fearless leader of men, and it is with pride and humble respect that I wish to honor his memory.
God bless you Sir, and may you rest in peace. |
