Jim Tackle
|
26 November 1923 To 15 March 2003 |
| Auckland Wellington New Zealand |
Jim's father died when he was 3 & his sister was 6 years old, so he took his responsibilities to heart as he grew up. He appeared brusque but was really a shy person, so was often misunderstood. He volunteered to join the Navy during WW2 as soon as he was old enough and, despite the war, it was probably the first taste of freedom he had. Went to NZ in 1956. His sister & her family (including his mother) wanted to go to Australia but were told that the grandmother could not go. He returned to the UK to look after her, because he thought his sister & family could have a better life in Aussie. So he sacrificed his own happiness for them.
