I was delivering my productS to a pub in Southampton, and while I was waiting for the landlord to appear I was looking at the pictures and things on the wall.I noticed a notice written by a man named Reggie.I was informed that he had recently crossed the bar and that he was a very brave man who served in the Navy with great distinction during the war. He was torpedoed a couple of times and that he was a fierce and proud patriot right up to his death at the age of ninety two. It was a simple toast written by him in a faltering hand. I have the original transcript but I have put it on the web so that it will never be forgotten, and as a tribute to a very brave man.
Reggies Toast
I TAKE THIS GLASS IN MY HAND AND I DRINK TO THE HEALTH OF THE COMPANY HERE,
FOR WHO KNOWS WHERE WE'LL BE IN ANOTHER YEAR.
SOME MAY BE DEAD, SOME MAY BE WED,SOME ON A FAR DISTANT SHORE.
BUT IF HEALTH WAS A THING THAT MONEY COULD BUY, THEN THE RICH WOULD LIVE AND THE POOR WOULD DIE.
BUT GOD IN HIS WISDOM MADE IT SO,
THAT TOGETHER WE COME AND TOGETHER WE GO.
CHEERS !!! 02/96
