Between 1973 and 1976, i served in the raf at marham. it was my first posting and i was a young (17) and callow youth. my line manager in operations was corporal ian love. ian, being the the man he was, took me under his wing and offered me encouragement, support and more, his friendship. i used to baby sit for his son and quite often you would find ian and i in his married quarters playing guitar together. over three years he became my mentor and the older brother i'd never had. i was posted away to uxbridge and we lost track of each other. off and on for the next 28 years i attempted to track him down without success. i heard about friends reunited and, when i went on the web site, saw a second site for forces reunited. one thursday afternoon, i put ian's name up. the following day i got a call from robin, a researcher who told me he'd found two possibilities. being aware of disappointment, it took me until monday but then i phoned. a woman answered and, after i'd given my name, there were muffled exclamations in the background. i caught... "you must be joking!" in a scottish accent. 5 seconds later i was talking to ian. last saturday, i drove to his home. it was like we'd never been out of contact. we were quickly playing guitar and reliving the mid seventies at raf marham. ian and his wife will be visiting my wife and i in a couple of weeks. what i failed to accomplish over 28 years, forces reunited succeeded at within 24 hours!
thank you Martin Kenny
