 Phillip and i were 'mates' back in 1967-1970 at raf brampton. we worked and played together and we both got married whilst at brampton. i think we lost touch when i was posted to changi in 1970. i neither heard from or saw phil again. as the years passed by, i would meet up with old pals from brampton and i would enquire about phil's whearabouts. no one new what hat happened to him.
i emigrated to america in 1989 after a tour at the british embassy in washington d.c.
the internet was born several years later but it was not until 2000 that i was able to contact old friends in this way. i never gave up on phil, mainly because i knew that he and his wife sandy were 'survivors'.
imagine my surprise when in february of this year, i received a message through "forces reunited" that read, "are you the same david suckling that i knew at raf brampton in the late 1960's"!
i replied immediately by saying " dear mushtifluftas (he always called me that)! yes, it is me.
ever since then, we have been sending each other e-mails, photographs of then and now and even trans atlantic phone calls. we have even been able to catch up with other people we both knew then because of "forces reunited".
thank you forces reunited for being there and bringing together friends who we might never have found without you.
