| Larry Key's details |
capt david holt, 2ic of hong kong pro coy rmp selected me to be a team member of the unit pistol shooting team in 1968. we carried out many shooting practices in various ranges, even during my rest days for the preparation of joining the hong kong skills at arms meeting in the same year. with our best effort, we won the pistol champion team, as well as the individual champion won by sgt fleming rmp. david appointed me as the team captain to collect the prize on behalf of the unit. i felt great and glorious because i was the only hong kong soldier attending the presentation.
in the sixties, most of the hk soldiers terminated their service after four years due lack of incentives, at that time, a lorry driver could earn more than an army sergeant. i was not the exception, after four years service, having been learning some skill such as driving, i prepared to leave the army with six months notice. david encouraged me to make a further consideration for a period of six months and i did not have to make any decision for the time being. fortunately i got promotion and payrise just before my run out date. i finally decided to sign on, i did fourteen years more and retired as wo2.
it could say that my army life was a successful one though there were difficulties and challenges. without david, i could have been a lorry driver during my precious age, david had changed my life. with this opportunity, i would like to thank david with all my heart for what he did as well as the forces reunited, david and i are in touch by email and telephone. you have done a good job again forces reunited.
