Philip and i joined the navy at sixteen in 1962 and met up as trainee radar operators at hms dryad in 1963, we were drafted together to hms berwick where we became best friends. we spent the first year on the berwick in home waters and coming from n.i. i could not get home easily and many a happy weekend i spent at his parents home near derby where i was treated as one of the family. on one occasion when the ship was in londonderry he visited my parents home in omagh. the second year we spent in the far east where we had many adventures in singapore, hong kong, the philipines and malaya. on returning to the u.k. we were drafted to different ships but met up again the following year when i attended philips wedding, we met up again briefly in 1967 when he was on the fife and i was on the galatea. we then lost touch completely and both left the r.n. in the early 70's, but i never forgot the friendship we shared and as it turned out neither did he. earlier this year i decided to look for philip and turned to forces reunited but was disappointed when i could not find his name but within three weeks philip had decided to look for me and when he entered his details one of the first names he saw was mine and he e-mailed me straight away. within a few hours we were on the telephone talking, as if the last 37 years had been but a couple of weeks. philip and his wife linda have since been over to visit us in donaghadee and my wife jane and i are arranging to visit them in november. many thanks forces reunited for a job well done.Victor (scotty) Scott
