German war memorial cemetry between El Adem and Tobruk Libya, taken 1961. Cemetry is built in the style of a castle, with arched plaques inset int insides of walls inscribed with lists of dead. Very well kept.

Government guest house in which we were first based on arrival at Kuching, kocated in town overlooking the padang. we were here for about a week as our intended camp site at the airport was flooded.

5001 sqdn taking a well earned tea break from making the concrete fence posts on the site outside Gibson block RAF El Adem 1961 / 62. Posts were for the erection of the fence round the whole base whole operation was completed by 5001 sqdn including specially designed crash gates the work of Sac Jim SUMMERS in close consultation with the Fire Section. I remember the numerous live tests clearly.

5001 sqdn Airfield Construction Branch, boarding the Empire Gannet with their equipment en route to their base station at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus 1962, our work was done at El Adem which now had civvy built married quarters, and Army units were now moving on to the camp.

Main gate RAF Tobruk 1961, i was based there for a short time doing some repairs on the twynham huts there, i was with 5001 sqdn Airfield Construction Branch, my main base was at El Adem.

RAF El Adem roundabout outside station hq, i remember one night a group of our 5001 sqdn lads managed to put the artillery piece on the roof of the HQ, the station Warrant Officer was not amused, but thr Station CO, Group Captain Ken HUBBARD took it all in good fun, another time some of the lads shinned up the water tower and painted 5001 Sqdn in 5ft high letters on it. Fun times.

I joined forces reunited to see if i could contact any old mates, and lo and behold i have had an e mail from an old friend from my time in aden 1958 i had given up hope of finding anyone, we are now corresponding and swapping old photos after 47 years. this site is very well named. forces re-united roy nzRoy Davies
