| Craig Raine's details |
We served in berlin in the early 1960's. pete came out the dli in 1962 and i was posted to hong kong. as happens when you are young you move around and you lose contact.
now something has happened that has made me take a look at what has gone before and what is in the future. i have had heart problems for 20 years and had various treatments have been tried. i had thought that i might be elligible for transplant and tests were being done to see if i would be suitable. the past 12 months or so things have been really bleak and at the beginning of this year i developed pnuemonia and had a real fight on my hands. when i didn't respond to treatment as they had hoped they did a cat scan and found that i have pulmonary fibrosis. i am on oxygen 24/7, have got to have chemotherapy for 6 months then the situation will be reviewed. i can barely get around and sitting in this chair makes me take stock of my life. i have such wonderful memories of the time i spent as a bandsman in the dli. i went to berlin the day that they put the wall up - my mother always said it was to keep me out of the bars in east berlin. i was in hong kong. i met some great blokes. sadly i have only had contact with 3 of them - one who has been a best mate to me and my family throughout my problems. now through forces united i have made contact with pete conway. i am just hoping that i will be lucky enough to hear from some other bandsmen. time for me is precious. i haven't got too long to find whoever might be out there. so i have fingers and toes crossed that i will strike lucky.
