'Add me to your Saved Friends' - What is this? Name: | John Martin Cooper |
 | | Nick Name: | Jack | | Service Number: | 7016081 | | Regiment 1: | Royal Irish Rifles | | Regiment 2: | 2nd Royal Ulster Rifles | | Regiment 3: | 2nd Royal Ulster Rifles | | Regiment 4: | Royal Irish Rifles | | Rank: | Corporal | | Year Joined: | 1939 | | Year Left: | 1944 | | Where are you now?: | The above is my Great Uncle Jack who died during the War. He died in Italy during the Offensive to take Rimini, 7th September 1944. He was in the Royal Ulster Rifles and, I believe was patrt of the 8th Army although I am trying to get confirmation of this from the MOD. Aside from surviving nieces and nephews he has no family to trace exactly what happened to him and, until three years ago, none of the family even knew where he was buried. I discovered that he is in Gradara cemertary and one of my Uncles has since visited but I would love to trace some of his comrades who knew him to find out what he was like and what happened to him. I realise this may be a painful memory for someone but it would mean a great deal to my family to find out this information. My late father remembered seeing his Uncle Jack on his embarkation leave, when he was a small boy and really looked up to him. I would love to find out more about him. Hope someone can help. My name is Helen Cooper |

I have been a member of a number of ex-service sites over the years and had virtually given up the thought of making contact with anyone. this is especially because my group, the balloon unit of cardington, numbered so few bods. then out of the blue through forces reunited, one of the happier faces from my time in the raf contacted me. we're both 71 now, but for me at least, the last 50 years just disappeared and our shared experiences are fresh again.
