Tony and i met in 1962 when we were both in training at h.m.s. pembroke. i a victualling wren trainee, he a junior cook. along with two other friends we went to the local bowling alley and had our picture taken for the chatham news. i still have the cutting from the newspaper. when i left chatham after my training period tony continued there to complete his. our paths never crossed again, until just very recently when i joined forces reunited. i contacted him through email, and was so pleased when he answered. i don't think he actually remembers me from h.m.s. pembroke, but we have sent each other several emails, and i sent him a copy of the picture, which he has since posted on 'find old navy friends' forum. the memories of our time at chatham have been brought up in our online conversations. happy times then and happy memories now.
also i have today found another friend from 1964, who was at h.m.s. daedalus. 'fred' an army photographer, who had a wonderful sense of fun then and appears to have it still. the thing is i don't think he remembers me either, but we can still talk about those long ago times and places we both went to, and maybe we both remember some of the same people. life is good. Hilary Sanderson
