Returned to Britain when 10 years old as parents where afraid I end up going to Veitnam. Stayed with grandparents and later went to school in West Yorkshire when parents arrived. Joined up at 17 and enjoyed my 10 years in the RAF. Returned to Australia in October 1984 as the rest of my family had already returned/settled back here in 1980.
Now married with 2 children to an Aussie girl (Dianne) and due to service career with both the RAF and RAAF, now on an Australian Disability Pension, due to crumbling spine and other injuries.
I now live in South Australia originally not far from Maslin Beach which is more famous here for being Australia's first Nudist beach. Resently moved out into the South Australian Out-Back to a small township called Elwomple - blink and you will miss it. Nearest large town is called Tailem Bend, which is where our post is delivered too (Post Office Box). Postie's are lazy out here, even when they deliver using a moped, they still will not travel more than a couple of kilometres from a Post Office, and they will never deliver on foot. Thus we travel a good 30 minutes every day to collect the post.
Known on 4 flight at RAF West Drayton as 'Snoopy' and at RAF Staxton Wold, and Trodoos as 'AJ'.

John and i joined the raf in sept 69 and trained in raf swinderbyand catterick to be gunners in the raf regiment and were posted to raf bicester no1 sqd raf reg.
from there to raf laarbruch in w.germany [as it was then].we served there for two and half years and went on various detachments together before i returned to no 37 sqd in raf catterick in 73 to be discharged.
we were great friends in the service and, i was often invited to john’s home in birmingham and, always treated as an special guest by his mom and dad. we met for a short time in 74 but, lost contact after that. i’m delighted to say that after just five days as a member of this great website john and i have made contact again and i look forward many a good time together [telling lies about the old days in the raf i’m sure]. many thanks to you all at this great website. keep up the good work.
