August 1952: i was a signaller with the 42 field regt. ra, serving in baor4. i received a message over the radio that the wife of one of our sergeants had given birth. i completed my two years national service and returned to civvy street. i often wondered what happened to some of those i served with in germany. i made some really great friends; closer than brothers. a few weeks ago i was reading the "legion" magazine in the doctors surgery and found your web address. the same day i logged on and became a member. i left messages on the site, but didn't expect too much because of all the years that had passed. however i was soon contacted by ex-squaddies of the 42nd, who informed me of their website. i have been conversing with people who actually served in the regiment at the same time as myself in 1952/54, including ray. imagine my surprise when, today, i received a phone call from ray; he was the sergeant whose wife had given birth to a baby daughter. other signallers had heard the news and he has just told me that he actually received 11 telegrams informing him kellyjohn@clara.co.ukof the birth. who would believe that after giving that message to ray and then leaving the army that 52 years later i should get in touch with ray directly because of this website! thanks John Kelly
