Belize in 1968
written by ANTHONY THOMAS MULGREW

Iwas attached to the REME WKSP A great bunch of lads best part of the posting was going out to see the Hancock familey that lived on a small island, we took plenty of beer and food even caught Barracuda and the lovely Mrs H would cook for us, Peter the father was a genius on electronics, and thats how he made is living, but it was always a way to relax, going out there in a boat donated to us. Football agaianst the local side the Jaguars, was always keen and hard, they thought that they were the best team, but us lads new different. Belize is the second biggest barrier reef in the world, and what great time we had hanging onto the dingy with our mask on being towed over the reef, colours you just could not discribe, reef and fish, just amazing. We worked on the camp with quite a few local boys they were mostley with the REME, I was in the RAOC stores section, and got to know them pretty quick. Wonderfull trips to Chatamul across the mexican border past their customs office and the passport stamped in no time (is amazing what a bottle of scotch stuck ontop of a land rover can do)

The posting lasted nine months, but the trip home via Miami for two days was an eye opener. The colours of some of the peoples clothes just had me in stitches, on one occasion just sitting there, a familey went past us all of them dressed in lime green and in a straight line, it reminded of a flock of ducks we were that taken aback non of us could even start to laugh for at least ten minutes, yep go to America and you see some sights. Thanks belize I had some really good times.
