how lucky in 1957 written by peter mills
in 1957 i joined the army {royal fusiliers}to see the world, and i saw a lot in my six year engagment, from the tower of london to purfleet, then to dover, then by way of troopship{dunera}to kenya, via gibralta, aden, then onto east africa, from there to,the middle east, then onto malta, with visits to cyprus, and the oman, then back to colchester, and i finnished up the germany,iv missed out a lot of other places i visited, because there were so many, but the point to all this is that i was aighteen when i went in, and tweenty four when i left, i had sailed the sea, flew the airways, seen jungle, dessert, islands, ect, and came home with a medal, what stories i can tell my kids and granchildren, if my eyes were a camara, i could fill a big book with wonderfull pictures, yes i was very lucky, how about you?... |
