I was posted here to drive VIPs during the victory parade celebrations,driving Field Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck. I stayed with the coy. until 1952 doing various jobs from Reg. Police/Workshops/HQ Plt.to driver instruction.In 1947 I landed the job of driving the V.C.I.G.S. at the war office. Driving Lt.Gen. Sir F.Simpson(of Nurenburg trials) Lt.Gen.Sir Gerald Templer. Lt.Gen. Brownjohn in the Rolls Royce, in which the late King & Sir Winston Churchill Toured the battle fields in WW2. The car is now in the Beverley museum of transport. |
