, , , Cyprus 1974 War in 2002 written by Alan Lake
I remember 7 Sqn RCT ADHOCK Troop was sent to Cyprus at the start of the Turkish / Greek war and we worked the proverbials off 24 hours a day.So when they started shipping supplies in direct to Dakalia and we moved them from the ship to the store we managed to aquire a few case’s of beer, which was stored in a fridge wagon belonging to 58 Sqn RCT who we were there to assist, but did all the work while they worked their normal hours 7am-1pm then went home.At about 1300hrs one day I was on duty driver and while waiting for a detail I heard a drill parade going on and on looking out of the window was amaized to see a squad of drunk naked apart from boots and berets men come marching along. We got thrown out of 58 Sqn compound for that, and instead of sleeping on their servicing bay floor we got camp beds and a big school classroom with washing & toilet facilities be it that they were designed for small children not hulking big soldiers. |
