RAF HARAKLIS CYPRUS in 1958 written by Geoff Morgan
c/o Bill Knapman p/o, a career (book) plonker. Insisted a Community hall should be built from the crates the aircraft wings were transported in. The boys' were not too keen. A concrete base was mixed and laid, in the heat of the mid-day sun. The crates arrived and were dis-assembled. Four sides of the hall were erected just before tea. That evening The (Cinema) Mess hall was showing the film "Moby Dick" and the weather outside was bad as the movie. The groaning of the ships timbers were echoed outside. With a grating and splintering, the hut sank to the ground in pieces. A loud roar of approval came from the audience. Mr Knapman dragged his wife from the Room. The project was not mentioned in the time I had left at Haraklis.
The scruffy dog handlers made up a team for a five aside football tournament. They only entered to make up the numbers. Being only 5 strong and one duty at all times, Our Bill Knapman joined the team. By Luck and hard play we found ourselves in the final. After a long hard match the ball was passed to our Bill with an open goal. William "Passed" the ball to the goalie.
It wouldn't do fer a career C/o to be in the winning team where the Capt was an SAC plonker.
'Til Bill, I might has signed on again.
