Malta pull-out in 1972 written by Gerald Goodwin
I joined "bulwark" in Jan 11th. 1972, two days later we sailed for Malta and were Told to expect trouble on arrival. This as it turned out was completely wrong. We moored between two boyes in the middle of Grand Harbour and there we stayed for two and a half months, during this time working parties were bing sent into the dockyard every day to help load up the ships that were carrying all the millitary gear out of malta, including all vehicals , not all work though, we had short weekends off, fun in the seamans Mission near customs jetty. All in all, Jess Jim and I, aswell as a lot of others, made some very good friends there in Malta during this period and had a lot good times too at work aswell as ashore. Bulwark was a fine ship and will long be remembered, and so will this period of her history for all who were there. |
