RAF during the Second World War in 1940 written by Christine Arrowsmith
This is a photo of my father Robert Bowman Arrowsmith. I have a couple of photos showing him with friends while stationed in South Africa during the war. I do not have any details, only brief memories that my Mother has given me. He was under the impression that he was bound for the far east, instead he had a war servicing planes brought down from the North Africa region, living off the fat of the land and returning in November 1944.
He bought a diamond from Kimberly, had a ring made with the help of a collegue who was a jeweller in civi-street, and sent it to my mother in the mail! When he returned he brought all the goodies needed to bake a fruit cake for the wedding and they married on Valentine's Day 1945. He died in 1974 and I would be interested if anyone remembers him and can give me some info! If interested I will load the other photo's. |
