1153 MCU CYPRUS(1956-1957) in 1956
written by Kenneth Lewinton (ESKI)

Arrive on unit as new LAC W.O.P. just in time for tea, come back and catch MBC going through my gear, after thanking him for unpacking for me in a forthright manor he gave me my nickname(ESKI) which remained with me for the rest of my carreer (37 yrs) in the RAF.

Unit situated at Morphou Bay and the launches moored about a mile off shore, first job is to learn how to launch 18ft whaler and to row and skull, how to do boat guard, learn how not to throw up when in HSL13, it seems that it was sunk sometime in its life and the smell is sea plant life growing in the bilges, never went down below in 13 spent all my time in signal cabin and on bridge, crew members remembered FS Duncan (could never rember my given name was even charged under nickname ESKI)FS King, Timber Woods (any sea over 2ft and he could be found curled up on the foredeck), Jock Heart(he who would dive off the water tower after uor Xmas party, only trouble tower was fifty yards from the sea, no he didnt dive he chickened out when distance from sea pointed out)John Watts fellow W.O.P. (who wished to return to fathers garden nursery as soon his NS completed)Dinty Moore (who looked more Greek than the Greeks and was never pulled up once for being outofbounds unarmed)Sqn Ldr Hardy our skipper (he made sure I learnt aldis how to work the radar and even let me drive(steer) our new HSL2751)

Anyone who would like to swop tales from thos times more than pleased to hear from you. ESKI
