Was serving in H M S Malaya at the outbreak of war. Navy reservists joined ship to bring it up to war time complement.One man was 53 years old Tubby Huckle London postman veteran of the first war, as soon as we received young hostilites only men the old reservistswere sent to the shore base in Alexandria. In 1943 I was serving on the Corvette Petunia escorting a convoy to the cape when we were detached to pick up survivers from the Empress of Canada sunk by U boat 100 miles away.
We reached the scene during the night ,while helping survivers aboard I heard this voice I recognised as Tubby Huckle.What a place for reunion but he was very glad to see me.
