Aqaba Jordan in 1956

 Aqaba/Jordan was the forgotten outpost it seemed. Us few REME attached to the RAOC. We found a boat but no engine in it so we found an engine and fitted this to it and from then on one or two of us in REME had a cushy number taking out the Officers and others on the gulf. Before we had heared of Jaques Costaue we made some waterproof boxes with a camara inside of it and did some underwater swiming and picture taking. We have the picts to proof this as well. Then there was a mad dash to Exit Jordan as the country no longer wanted us there. lots and lots of L/Rovers, Champs and half tracks were left behind but, they were no use to anyone???? Anyone remember out there...... |
