The closing down of R.A.F Rhoose. in 1952 written by bill Turner
RAF Rhoose was a very small unit with just over 60 bods working on ammunitions and bombs left there since the war.
We cleared it out by Feb 1952 when it closed down and was taken over by air Lingus to become a civil airline.
Our night accomodation was at ST Athen where we spent some great times in the 6 Bells and the 3 horseshoes where I used to sing a little bit in those days.
I was known as Taff Turner and from there went to Newton, Bottesford and Goxhill, and if anyone remembers me I would love to hear from them. |
