Boys Training School RAOC in 1952 written by Robert Walker
After joining the RAOC Boys Training School at Haslar Barracks in 1951 I found myself engaged in perfomances of the Toy Soldier Display. We performed at venues around the country for various service events, places like, Fratton Park,(Portsmouth) Earls Court (Royal Tournament) El Alimein Reunion (8th Army)at Alexandra Palace,Aldershot, and numerous other venues.
Part of our routines can be found at http://www.britishpathe.com under RAOC. It was an enjoyable experience, after 2.5 years we moved on to our main units as fully trained soldiers, with a trade and good prospects for promotion. If any one remembers those halcyon days I would be pleased to hear from them. |
