543Sqn. RAF Wyton in 1957 written by Allan Dandridge
Late in 1957 one of the Valiants was in the hangar undergoing servicing when it caught fire, ending up as a long pile of ash (fuselage) with the tailplane and upper fin, pressure cabin, and both wings resting on the hangar floor.
Fire appliances from all local towns and airfields attended, with a crew from USAF Alconbury taking crash-crew duties because their equipment couplings did not match British ones.
