Singapore in 1941
written by John Wilde

HMS Mauritius was undergoing an extensive refit. All the crew were living ashore in the Fleet Shore Accommodation. On the morning of December 7th I was awakened by the sound of explosions from the Dockyard area which was being attacked, apparently, by Japanese aircraft. I then learned that the American Naval Base at Pearl Harbour had been attacked. HMS Repulse and HMS Prince Of Wales arrived and later I and a few mates watched from the playing fields as they left harbour on their ill-fated mission which resulted in both being sunk.
