Hal Far, Malta, June 1955. in 1955
written by Brian Hibbert

On arrival at Hal Far,(in 55) my first impressions were "what a dump",I never thought that I would come to like the place. It took a while to settle in, but I began to get to know the place and the local people and things began to take on a different shape. One place I can remember was Ronnie's Bar. Once seen never forgotten. How many of you who visited Hal Far failed to meet him or had a drink in his bar. Maybe a glass of Screech! I don't think the place ever closed all the time I was there.

November 2003. I was taken back to Malta for a trip down Memory Lane, by my eldest son, who was born at Mtafra Military Hospital. How the place has changed over the last 48 years. One place we went to have a look at was of course Hal Far, somebody has done what the German and Italian aircraft could not do, and wrecked the place, where Ronnie's Bar used to be has gone. But one good thing was when we went over to Marsaxlokk to have a look round the place, we found a bar called Ronnie's, and no it was him, but his son who owned the bar. And would you beleive Ronnie was sat inside having a bite to eat and a drink. After nattering about old times we finnished going to his house about 4 or 5 miles away to see all his memorabilla. What a day we had.
