cyprus 1974 turkish invasion in 2002
written by albert wyllie-shovlin

iwas an senior engineer on board a ship berted in famagusta harbour, when the invasion started. we recieved a wireless message from london, saying in effect, "bug out" now! it takes time to prepare a ship for sailing, so we had cleared the harbour when the turkish aircraft arrived. we had a grandstand view off the airborne troops etc arriving. i gather, that the intelligence servicess were incredibly lax.an invasion on the scale used, takes planning etc. it would appear that warnings were given, just prior to the event beginning!
