Sicily landing at Avola. July 11th. in 1943 written by George Naylor
Sailed from Alexandria on an American Liberty Ship, with the 15th Mobile CCS.
Opened up as a Field Hospital in a school at Avola. Was there for three days before advancing to Syracuse.
Lost ten drivers when the ship landing our rear party was blown up in the harbour. Most of the troops and crew were lost that day. George.Advanced up Sicily to Catania, after much fierce fighting with the enemy, had many casualties in the CCS.
We had ten QAIMNS,Nursing Sisters, with us, two were killed. Then crossed the Messina Strates to Italy. |
