Royal Signals 1962 - 1967 in 1962 written by Leonard ARTHUR Johnson
Who remembers the terrible winter at Catterick Camp 62/63. Those in charge of us had us chipping six inch blocks of ice off the square at 24 Signal Regt Gaza Lines so the White Helmets could train. I was involved in a bad road accident at 1 Div Sigs when returning from exercise in about Sep/Oct of 1963 we were travelling on the road in the RHQ office vehicle when a German Cattle truck swung across the road and ripped the side out of our vehicle Corporal Charlie Smethurst recieved very bad injuries to both of his legs and I think it finished him in the Army. I only recieved minor injuries to my knee also involved was Cpl Reg Cattermole, I often wonder what happened to those to friends, if anyone can shed any light on them pleaswe do. I was posted to 28 Regt later that year, at St Tonis, where I met up with amongst others Cpl Lou Costell and Cpl Mac Dunnett does anyone out there remember them? I remenber going on atrip to Dortmund in 1964 to watch B. Dortmund play Man Utd in Fairs Cup, unt. won easy and a teenage George Best was brilliant.
I was posted to Aden in 1965 for the formation of 15 Signal Regt and whilst out there helped to form the Kat Klub does anyone remember any of the above if so I would love to hear from you. |

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
