BOBC Norway in 1977 written by Derek Knight
During my fifteen years in the Army
from 1967 to 1982 the highlight has
to have been my two years at the British
Outward Bound Centre near Kristiansand,
Southern Norway, in the late 1970s.It was a brilliant experience for any
member of the Services. In the summer
there was canoeing, climbing and exped-
ition leading, and in the winter cross
country skiing and snow and ice climbing. I was fortunate to meet a
cross section of personnel from all Arms
and Services. As a member of the permanent staff we
were actively engaged with the local
community and held open days and liaised
with the local Norwegian forces. I would be interested to hear from anyone who also served at BOBC or who
attended a course. Sadly, the Centre
closed in 1993 and with it a valuable
training resource. |
