I am not sure of the date I arrived at RAF Elhamra, but was posted toRAF Fayid, and as it was my first night there I was put on guard duty. my beat or whatever you call it was on the airstrip where jets were coming in all night long. There was a gap about fifty yards wide to allow them to taxi in to the hangers, Being completly green to this type of duty I found myself halfway across this gap to find a jet was heading for me at great speed. You have never seen me move so fast since.
It was a great relief to me to find myself posted back to RAF Elhamra within a week to join 5002Squadron even if it was to be misemployed on water filtration for most of my timein the MIDDLE EAST, and I thoroughly enjoyed the life.
