Armoured Division Transport Regiment, in 1954 written by Ken Williamson
I remember doing fire picket in Yeovil. Walking to the B L R bays in the middle of the night on my own, and being attacked by bats, and giant moths. Lashing out wildly with my picket stick to no avail. And the noise of the vehicle engines cooling down did not help. It was a nervy two hours. Sometimes, the other duty pickets in the guardroom would oversleep when it was time for their stint, and would not turn up until you go back and wake them up. |
