, HMS Ganges,Torquay,Whitby,Undaunted,Ashanti, Brighton, Civvy Street. in 1958
written by Bob Latimer

Tough but happy times and i’ll always remember them. Sad to see Ganges now, but i,ll always remember it the way it was happy days.

HMS TORQUAY. My first ship, Far East, back home and and straight up on Iceland patrols, from the sublime to the ridiculace.Remember our huge Paying off Pennant steaming into Portsmouth, and my family waiting to greet us, Happy days

HMS WHITBY. Far East commision again, lost count of the number of exotic places we visited showing the flag, how lucky we were, and it made me realise what a great country we live in,and it was always good to get home to family and friends, and the green green grass of England.

HMS UNDAUNTED. Sea trialed the Lynx helicopters off Portland, mainly on landing gear, lost a couple over the side if i remember. Then joined the Derry squadron [red hand of Ulster], never stopped raining up their.

HMS ASHANTI. Persian Gulf, dow patrols, out of Barhrain, the ship was fully air conditioned luckily, but it was always breaking down., and it,s not an old sea story when i say you could fry an egg on the upper deck.

HMS BRIHTON. My last ship, Far East again, and the tail end of the Aden conflict, hairy times. Came back home and joined the first STANAVFORLANT, and visited US big time. Had a fabulous time.

CIVVY STREET. Could,nt settle down and went back out to S/AFRICA,and worked for GEC on the Railway for a couple of years. Retired 2 years ago, and work part time as a School Caretaker.

There is nothing worse than breaking down. But if you do, the RAC have more than 1,500 patrols ready to rescue you, whether you are at the shops or on the motorway. They will always try to fix your vehicle at the roadside, but if they cant they will make getting it repaired as painless as possible.
