HMS Ganges, Jutland Wreath/Return to the Annexe in 1966 written by Pete Clements
Couple of strong memories from Ganges. Representing HMS Ganges at St Martin’s on the Field, and laying a Wreath on behalf of the establishment in comemoration of Boy Cornwall who was killed at the Battle of Jutland and received the V.C.
Secondly returning to the Annexe as a J.I. after completing stage one of my training, to teach the new entrants to become young men, wash/sew/march/mark time on their bed springs when the need arose, or stand on the parade ground with their kitbags on their shoulders........Only after we went to sea that we realised how important these lessons were in discipline and comradeship....Happy days! |
